In response to “anonymous person”. Happy New Year! January 1, 2018 marks the 7th anniversary of Recovery Outfitters. We are grateful to have been able to help so many young men over these past seven years. We hope our response will provide insight to those considering treatment. We also hope our response will encourage Anonymous Person to continue to seek help. Anyone in the treatment field is familiar with, and understands, these types of outlandish claims from former clients. Lies fuel addiction which is why rigorous honesty is the primary principle of 12 Step programs and the basis of most recovery programs. We are not perfect but this review is in no way an accurate reflection of even a fraction of our program. Of our current 10 staff members (treating 10 clients), 6 have been with us over 5 years, another 3 have been with us over 3 years, and the last has been with us over a year. We would encourage any reader to visit our website and see the credentials of our staff. It is incredulous to believe such experienced and credentialed individuals would remain affiliated with any program as described by Anonymous Person. We are not a hospital type facility and our low fees reflect this. The staff description of “sweet” reflects the ROI objective of teaming with a client to guide them in their recovery. “You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.” Any interaction with a client has therapeutic value. Some of the best therapeutic work occurs outside a formal environment. The client feels relaxed and connects person to person. We are a small facility providing daily individualized attention to each client for whom a specific, individualized treatment plan is designed. This routinely brings allegations of not being “consistent” or “organized” from those unwilling to focus on their own recovery. For those resistant to treatment and unwilling to participate in their own recovery, it quickly begins to feel as if “[a]ll you do is basically live at a house and go to one AA meeting a day.” We hope we recognize this resistance quickly to either influence the individual’s motivation or refer them for a higher level of care. The implication that ROI has a higher than average percentage of former clients relapse and overdose demonstrates a lack of understanding of addiction and the treatment field. Not all of our clients remain for the entire program and some leave against clinical advice. Regardless, we remain close to their families and continue to show care and concern for these family members who have had their hearts torn out from this disease. ROI is exceptional in that we connect with our clients and their families at a deeply personal level that continues beyond the traditional treatment experience. Treatment and recovery entails facing the realities of day to day living such as: you do not always get what you want; things do not always go the way you think they should; and, plans get disrupted. We are used to being blamed for client’s problems. Anger occasionally results when we require someone to participate in their own recovery. We encounter many forms of deception used to avoid personal responsibility: innuendo; self-righteous judgment with no basis in education or experience; unattainable expectations of perfectionism creating resentment and anger; and, blame shifting to name a few. To say we “treat clients like 3 year olds by making them do kindergarten artwork…” is an attempt to shame the creating of sympathy cards for families of overdose victims. This exercise reinforces the reality that young men just like them die from overdose and the impact their death would have on their family. These are uncomfortable feelings and some conclude it is the activity, not their prior actions, that cause the feelings leading them to negate the activity. We will hold “Anonymous person” and all those in active addiction in our prayers. We hope that all those in pain will seek professional help. EDITDELETE

Dear Anonymous Thank God for ROI. They helped my son in ways you will never understand. God bless this family because it is a family and there are always rules that need to be folllowed. My husband and I have gone to the family workshops they offer and for the first time it clicked for my husband what addiction is and it is not something you pull yourself up by the bootstraps and that it is something to just get over. Since you used Anonymous I think you are hiding behind lies because if these things were tru you would not have hesitated giving your real name. I hope you find a place that gives you what you want like a spa rehab and you really get sober.

Recovery Outfitters is designed with the family in mind. Clients and counselors interact together in an environment that the clients will feel reminds them home. The staff at ROI does what they do because they desire to see lives changed and saved. Addiction destroys relationships and the ability to interact with others correctly. ROI works with the family unit to restore these relationships and help the family become healthy. Family workshops teach clients and their respective family members how to communicate and be honest with each other. For some people this is a first. Many families report greater trust and understanding after attending a family workshop. I have witnessed the healing that takes place at these workshops. It is truly life changing.

I was a hardcore drug user for the better part of a decade. When I arrived at Recovery Outfitters in my mid-20s I was broken, in every sense of the word. The staff, counselors, & therapists showed me so much more than just how to "not use". They showed me how to be myself, how to accept life on life terms, how to live, laugh, love, and have fun. Thanks to their professionals I learned how to deal with issues that I wasn't even aware that I had. It all started with being honest. I needed help & I had been to a few other treatment centers but Recovery Outfitters was different.

Recovery Outfitters is a residential treatment center that targets adolescent and young adult males. They are one of the few centers with a long track record of successful treatment of both minors and young adults. In a home-like environment, they build a partnership with these young men based on a level of trust they have not yet experienced. Through therapy, they free themselves from troubles of the past to commit to a life of sobriety. Through choice and consequences, they learn to make good decisions. Through life skills training and intense recreation, they discover a way to find joy without the use of drugs and alcohol. They begin to fulfill their potential as persons of integrity.
